Verdi: Requiem Verdi’s magnificent masterpiece.
This is more than a concert. Verdi’s Requiem is a powerful spiritual journey that confronts life’s deepest questions of life and death. It moves from dramatic bursts of fear at the coming Judgment Day to intimate, whispered prayers for a place in the eternal light.
Verdi was deeply involved in Italy’s unification and a devoted admirer of the national poet Alessandro Manzoni, a key figure in the movement. He wrote the Requiem as a tribute to Manzoni, using his full range of vocal and orchestral colors and his extraordinary gift for emotional expression. The result is a work that continues to move, startle, and comfort audiences today.
