The young Swedish violinist Daniel Lozakovich has made a meteoric rise on the international stage. Now, he makes a long-awaited visit to Malmö Live, bringing the sweeping Russian romanticism of Tchaikovsky’s cherished Violin Concerto.
On the conductor’s podium is Jun Märkl, whose roots in both Asia and Europe allow the world’s musical traditions to enrich one another, and, in the words of Japanese composer Toru Takemitsu, to “swim in a sea that has neither east nor west.”
Influenced by Debussy, Takemitsu lets a flock of impressionistic birds descend into a magical garden in A Flock Descends into the Pentagonal Garden, while Stravinsky uses the pentatonic scales of the East to depict the Chinese emperor’s court in the fairy tale of The Nightingale (Le chant du rossignol).
