Martyn Brabbins was appointed Chief Conductor of the Malmö Symphony Orchestra, beginning with the 2025–26 season. He is a Visiting Professor of Conducting at the Royal College of Music in London and at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.
Brabbins’s conducting career includes many prestigious positions at leading European opera houses such as the Kirov, La Scala, the Bayerische Staatsoper, and the opera companies of Lyon, Amsterdam, Frankfurt, and Antwerp. Alongside his work as an opera conductor, Martyn Brabbins has also appeared as an orchestral conductor with the leading orchestras of the United Kingdom, as well as with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, the San Francisco Symphony, the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, and the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra, to name just a few.
Brabbins is a strong advocate of British composers and has conducted hundreds of world premieres around the globe. For several years, he has been a valued presence at the BBC Proms, and in tribute to him, 14 contemporary composers each wrote a birthday anthem for him in 2019.
