Katlijn Sergeant

Place of birth: Belgium

What year did you begin to play your instrument, and why that specific instrument? 1989. Actually harp was my first choice, but there was no harp teacher in my music school. And at that time there was a popular flute player in the media, so I got fascinated by the instrument.

When did you begin to work in MSO? 2012

What does your educational background look like? Studied at the Royal conservatory of Brussels.

What is you favourite moment from your time in the MSO? The opening concert at Malmö Live playing Berlioz Symphony Fantastique.

In what other orchestras/ensembles or other contexts have you worked? Oslo Philharmonic, City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, Rotterdam Philharmonic, National Orchestra of Belgium, Monnaie Opera House in Brussels, Philharmonic Orchestra of Liege, Antwerp symphony orchestra,  Aalborg Symphony Orchestra, Royal Danish Opera, Danish National Symphony Orchestra, Helsingborg Symphony Orchestra, Göteborg Symphony Orchestra...

Who is you favourite composer? Stravinsky.

What do you prefer to do in your spare time? Spending time with my children, cinema and concerts. Preferably all together :)

What is your favourite food? Chocolate fondant

What is your tip on activity in Malmö? Kallbadhuset!

Why should everyone go and listen to symphonic music? Because you can experience the sound of a very expensive stereo system in real life! Feeling the sound and vibrations of each individual instrument is priceless.
