What year did you begin to play your instrument, and why that specific instrument? I began with violin but switched to double bass around age 15 due to an interest in jazz. After joining my local youth orchestra I left jazz behind and fell in love with classical music.
When did you begin to work in MSO? 2007
What does your educational background look like? I hold a Bachelors of Music from the University of Michigan where I studied with Diana Gannett. I received my Masters of Music at Rice University under Tim Pitts and Paul Ellison. Additional studies with Joel Quarrington, Leigh Mesh, Nico Abondolo and Marilyn Fung
What is you favourite moment from your time in the MSO? The opening of Malmö Live Konserthus was a very exciting period. Every seat was full and we played many challenging programs.
In what other orchestras/ensembles or other contexts have you worked? I joined Canada's National Youth Orchestra in 2000 where I participated for three years, touring North America and Asia. Afterwards I performed for two summers at the Music Academy of the West in Santa Barbara, California. Towards the end of my studies I joined the Verbier Festival Orchestra, spending two summers in Switzerland and touring USA, Europe and Asia. I was then invited to join the Verbier Festival Chamber Orchestra where I remain an active member to this day, occasionally joining them on various tours and residencies.
Who is you favourite composer? J.S. Bach
What do you prefer to do in your spare time? Most of my spare time is spent making bows! I've studied bowmaking for over ten years with Ulf Johansson, Jim Reck and Lynn Hannings. It's a challenging and fulfilling hobby that keeps me insanely busy.
What is your favourite food? Too hard to choose. For the moment let's say Indian?
What is your tip on activity in Malmö? Eat and repeat. Quality, diversity and affordability gives Malmö a food scene that rivals far larger cities.
Why should everyone go and listen to symphonic music? To sit quietly and listen openly for long periods is the antithesis of modern life.
