Concert Information

Due to production reasons, we need to adjust the concerts of the Tchaikovsky Festival. The festival still features several Tchaikovsky symphonies in a mixed program of well-known and beloved symphonies, as well as the less frequently performed symphonies.

Tchaikovsky Festival #2

A single horn is heard in the introduction of the first movement of Symphony no 2. The melody has been taken from a Ukrainian folk song, this also being the main theme of the finale. The melancholy  that his symphonies regularly contain is missing almost entirely in Symphony no 2.

Tchaikovsky insisted that his sixth and last symphony was programmatic, but refused to reveal what it was about. Nine days after the premiere Tchaikovsky died and took his secret to the grave. The final movement carries us down into the realm of the dead, a slow disintegration of the soul. The final bar is empty.
