Two weeks, seven symphonies and Robert Trevino on the podium – these are the ingredients for this ambitious Sibelius Festival.

We begin with the composer’s farewell to the symphonic genre, his suggestive and majestic Symphony No. 7 from 1924. It is one of the first ever one-movement symphonies i.e. composed in a single, long and continuous movement. Sibelius’ Symphony No. 1, which he composed a quarter of a century earlier, features a very low-key beginning with clarinet and rumbling drum, while the finale is a drawn-out, enthralling struggle between conflict and reconciliation.
