Music in the South: Trio Theros

Trio Theros brings together three of the Nordic region’s most promising young soloists, violinist Anna Agafia, cellist Jonathan Swensen and pianist Gustav Piekut, in an ensemble that is already attracting attention for its brilliance, presence and strong artistic identity. 

The trio was founded in 2018 and grew out of a shared artistic curiosity and desire to delve into the rich world of the piano trio repertoire. Alongside flourishing international solo careers, they have developed a chamber music collaboration characterized by immediacy, clarity and expressive tension. The meeting of their distinct musical personalities creates an energy that makes the trio’s interpretations both intense and deeply moving. 

Anna Agafia has achieved international recognition through significant competition awards and performances with orchestras in and outside Europe. Jonathan Swensen, recipient of the Avery Fisher Career Grant and first prize winner in the Naumburg International Cello Competition, appears regularly as a soloist and chamber musician on both sides of the Atlantic. Pianist Gustav Piekut, acclaimed for his ability to combine technical precision with poetic expression, is active internationally as a concert soloist and recording artist.

During the 2025–2026 season, Trio Theros has been appointed Artist in Residence at the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel, reflecting the ensemble's growing international recognition and artistic development.
