Wagner x2

This programme is bookended by two of Wagner’s most dazzling overtures. We kick things off with the deeply serious and slowly proceeding prelude to his last completed opera, Parsifal.

This is followed by Scriabin’s Piano Concerto, full of virtuoso flights and nostalgic melodies which, for some reason, have never been discovered by Hollywood, as this work contains plenty of material worthy of illustrating an emotional climax on the big screen.

The evening continues with Britta Byström’s exquisitely repetitive and rhythmic work Segelnde Stadt and then concludes with the glittering, magnificent overture to Wagner’s Tannhäuser.
