Zappas symfoniska verk

Christophe Mangou has been a regular guest of the Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse for several seasons. Since the season 2012-2013, he is also in charge of their educational project.
In this context, he is at the origin of several original and ambitious commands, such as the musical tale Eva pas à pas by Sylvain Griotto in March 2015.
During the 16-17 season, he conducts around twenty performances, including l’Ile Indigo, world premiere with the audience involved and Light from the Outside World with Jeff Mills.
Winner of the famous Donatella Flick conducting competition (London, 2002), Christophe Mangou was awarded a two-year contract as assistant conductor to the London Symphony Orchestra. He was thus brought to work with the main conductor of this prestigious orchestra, Sir Colin Davis, and guest conductors such as Bernard Haitink, Emmanuel Krivine, Mariss Jansons, Michael Tilson Thomas, Antonio Pappano, Sir John Eliot Gardiner.

While pursuing his career as a classical conductor, Christophe Mangou, an eclectic musician, is keen to develop projects based on original collaborations between classical musicians, jazz musicians and other artists with different backgrounds...
Since September 2012, he has collaborated with Jeff Mills, international famous DJ, on his various symphonic projects; they have already performed in France (Salle Pleyel in Paris, Nouveau Siècle in Lille), Australia (Melbourne Festival), Portugal (Casa da Musica in Porto), Sweden (Malmö Live Konserthus), Hungary (Millenaris Teatrum in Budapest), Poland (Katowice), Belgium (Gent festival) and dates are scheduled in the Halle aux grains in Toulouse, the Auditorium de Lyon, at the MC2 in Grenoble, B.A.M in Metz, as well as reinvitations to the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam in the frame of Robeco SummerNights and at the Barbican in London.
To enrich his field of expression, since 2004, he trains in “soundpainting”, a live-composition technique based on conducted improvisation, aimed at reducing the visible "borders" between the different worlds which are classical music, jazz and improvised music... In this context, he creates the “Ensemble Amalgammes” in Paris (http://www.ensemble-amalgammes.fr/).

Raised with the sound of Jimi Hendrix, Frank Zappa and King Crimson, he soon turned from a graduated engineer to a musician with degrees in jazz and classic composition. In 2004, he created the multi-awarded large ensemble PING MACHINE ("Album of the Year 2013" for Jazz Magazine, French Grammy Awards 2014 Nominee for «Album of the year» etc.), one of the most innovative band on the european jazz scene. In 2016, he releases 2 new recordings with PING MACHINE “Easy Listening” & “Ubik” (commissioned by the French Ministry of Culture) once again acclaimed by the critics.
In his writing and playing, he develops a singular music creating boundless imaginary worlds. His compositions question musical language but also forms usually used in jazz and improvised music in order to allow the listener to discover new musical landscapes. His wide influences range from György Ligeti to Steve Coleman, Meshuggah or Gérard Grisey.
Frédéric Maurin is also guitarist with the ensemble AMALGAMMES under the direction of Christophe Mangou since 2006. He currently also plays in Andrew Crocker's FREE, FLOW & FLY, in the very electric guitar trio FLAMENCO PUNK (with Pierre Durand and Julien Desprez) and he his member of FZ Project with Yves Rechsteiner (church organ) and Henri-Charles Caget (percussion), trio dedicated to the music of Frank Zappa. In 2017, he will be presenting a new contemporary quintet, KLEIN_MASCHINE, with top europeen soloist dedicated to new compositions.
