DREAM MUSIC is a twelve-hour festival in Malmö Live Concert Halls that reflects the daily transition from morning to night, inspired by co-presenters Le Guess Who? and Basilica Hudson’s 24 HOUR DRONE concerts.

Curator: Nathan Larson
Musician and composer Nathan Larson is the primary artistic director, who among other things has made soundtracks to over 50 films, including the Oscar-winning Boys Don’t Cry and Lilya 4-ever andcreates music for HBO and Netflix series. He is a producer, and has played in such bands as Shudder To Think and A Camp.
Karin Karlsson, head of artistic program at Malmö Live about Nathan: "Nathan Larson is an interesting cultural personality that we have long wanted to work with. He has great musical knowledge and a network that extends far beyond the borders of our country. In addition, he writes books and runs his own podcast TONEDEAF, including addressing issues of gender and race."
DRONE
Drone is a musical form that is based on a persistent, hypnotic tone that channel something powerful, primal and sensuous. The genre is global, to be found in the indiginous music of all cultures, and has made its way into everything from metal + experimental rock, to pop, electronic and symphonic music.
Artists
Several renowned artists are already confirmed: Stephen O'Malley (front man for the US drone metal gods SUNN O)))), Swedish Oscar winning Matti Bye (SE), Los Angeles-based electro-acoustic artist Julianna Barwick (US), and co-curator Melissa Auf der Maur (US), who is best known for her work with Hole and Smashing pumpkins, and her own 24 HOUR DRONE concerts held at the Basilica Hudson, a gorgeous venue/ production entity in Hudson, New York that Auf der Maur owns and directs creatively.
More artists include Lau Nau (FIN), canadian Jessica Moss (The Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra), Christoffer Berg from Fever Ray and Joachim Nordvall (The Skull Defekts). Also on stage; Noveller (Sarah Lipstate), Julia Kent, Robert Aiki Aubrey Lowe and DJ set by Elin Unnes.

Vindla Quartet are a Swedish quartet, performing string music of all genres.
Nathan Larson
Nathan Larson is an American born musician, author, and film composer. He spends the bulk of his time in Malmö but maintains a home in New York City. Larson is the author of three novels. His award winning film career is long and varied, includes films such as BOYS DONT CRY, MARGIN CALL and HBO’s VINYL,…Larson has performed in many bands including Shudder to Think, A Camp, Swiz, and Girls Against Boys. His life was altered completely by LaMonte Young’s DREAM HOUSE, hence the name of this particular festival.
Lau Nau
Lau Nau or Laura Naukkarinen, is a musician from Helsinki, Finland. Her sound has been likened to the cooing of doves. Recently, Naukkarinen has been composing music for films, theatre, dance, sound installations, and live silent film scoring . Lau Nau lives in the Finnish countryside of Kimito island with her husband and two sons.
Matti Bye
Matti Bye is a Swedish pianist and composer, who has created music for over 30 films and TV series as well as additional scores for theatre and dance pieces. In 2014 Bye was nominated twice at Sweden´s Guldbagge Awards, in which his soundtrack for the film Faro won the award. Bye also won a Guldbagge in 2009 for his score for the film Everlasting Moments. Bye has released numerous solo and collaboration records, include Hydra’s Dream, with Anna Von Hausswolff; Maailma, with cult Finnish songwriter Lau Nau; and has collaborated live with producer and musician Samuli Kosminen.
Jessica Moss
Jessica Moss is best known for playing violin and singing backing vocals in the Canadian post-rockband Thee Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra & Tra-La-La Band since 2001, and is a founding member of Black Ox Orkestar. In addition, Moss has also been a guest player on many albums produced in Montreal and Toronto, including albums by Frankie Sparo, Arcade Fire, and Broken Social Scene. She has released two solo records, UNDER PLASTIC LIGHT ISLAND and POOLS OF LIGHT.
Vega Choir
Vega Choir is based in Malmö and was started in 2008. Leader, arranger and conductor is Christian Schultze who works as an organist in the Parish of St John in Svenska kyrkan Malmö (a part of the Lutheran Church of Sweden). Christian is also the leader of the “Johanneskören” and of the “S:t Johannes Chamber Choir”.
Malmö Nya Dronesällskap
Malmö Nya Dronesällskap, as the name implies are a collective of deep Swede creating drone music out of Malmö. Members: Rasmus Alkestrand, Johan Fotmeijer (Claudia Bonarelli, Thet Liturgiske Owäsendet) Jurko Haltuu (Funeral Fog Rec., Död, Lifelovers), Linus Schrab (Purlieu Recordings, V I C I M, Thet Liturgiske Owäsendet), Jonas Stojiljikovic (seasofpiss, sahrana, Lifelovers)
Christoffer Berg
Christoffer Berg is a Swedish musician, producer, mixer and programmer, has made a name for himself with his involvement with The Knife, Fever Ray, Jose Gonzales, and his work for the legendary Depeche Mode.
Jaen Haven
Jaen Haven are a Malmö based group whose roots are shrouded in mystery. This is their first formal appearance anywhere.
Julia Kent
Julia Kent is a New York based cellist and composer. She creates music using looped cello, found sounds, and electronics. Julia has performed as a member of Rasputina and Antony and the Johnsons. In addition to her solo albums, Julia Kent has composed a number of original film scores, as well as music for theatre and dance performances.
The Dream Music Ensamble
The Dream Music Ensemble is the first collaboration between Chistoffer Berg, Nathan Larson, and Joachim Nordwall.
Joachim Nordwall
Joachim Nordwall is a polymath and musician, and the founder of the Gothenburg based label IDEAL RECORDINGS. He is a member of the SKULL DEFKTS, The Fire Orchestra, SATURN AND THE SUN, and has engaged in countless collaborations with some of experimental music’s most luminous names.
Robert Aiki Aubery Lowe
Robert Aiki Aubrey Lowe is an artist and multi instrumentalist that works with voice in the realm of spontaneous music often under the moniker of Lichens. His is also a performing member of stoner metal legends OM. Most recently, creating patch pieces with modular synthesizer and singing to them has been a focus of live performance and recordings. Through collaboration Robert has worked with Ben Russell, Ben Rivers, Rose Lazar, Hisham Akira Bharoocha, Tarek Atoui, Ben Vida, Mark Borthwick, Lucky Dragons, Alan Licht, Michael Zerang, Doug Aitken, Patrick Smith, Monica Baptista, Lee Ranaldo, White/Light, Kevin Martin, Chris Johanson, Tyondai Braxton, David Scott Stone, Genesis P-Orridge and Rose Kallal, as well as many others. His work can be found in galleries and museums globally.
Julianna Barwick
Julianna Barwick is a Los Angeles based composer and artist whose work revolves around electronic vocalization. Her 4th album WILL has been met with near universal praise.
Noveller
Noveller is the solo electric guitar project of Brooklyn-based composer and filmmaker Sarah Lipstate. Noveller has toured with Iggy Pop, St. Vincent, Wire, Radiolab, Xiu Xiu, the Jesus Lizard, U.S. Girls, & Aidan Baker, and has also participated in Rhys Chatham’s Guitar Army, Ben Frost’s “Music for 6 Guitars” and Glenn Branca’s 100 guitar ensemble.
Ectoplasm Girls
Ectoplasm Girls do not perform, they hold seances. They are a collaborative audiovisual project of Stockholm-based sisters Nadine and Tanya Byrne, started in 2007. With their unique blend of post techno, industrial and esoteric pop they express their joint experiences with death and dreams.
Melissa Gaboriau Auf der Maur
Melissa Gaboriau Auf der Maur is a Montreal-born musician, singer-songwriter, photographer and actress, who saw tremendous success with her former bands The Smashing Pumpkins and Hole, as well as her solo work. She is the founder of the Basilica Hudson performance and arts center, as well as the 24 HOUR DRONE series, of which DREAM MUSIC is a natural extension.

Saturn And The Sun is Joachim Nordwall and Henrik Rylander who create sounds.
Angel Deradoorian
Angel Deradoorian, also known as Deradoorian, is a musician based in Los Angeles, California. She is best known for her work with Dirty Projectors whom she left in 2012 . In 2015 she released a solo album, The Expanding Flower Planet, and has collaborated with FLYING LOTUS, THE ROOTS, AVEY TARE, and BRANDON FLOWERS, among others.
Stephen O'Malley
Stephen O’Malley needs no intros to those who know....he is a guitarist, producer, composer, and visual artist from Seattle, Washington who has conceptualized and participated in numerous drone doom, death/doom, and experimental music groups, most notable of which is the legendary Sunn O)). He is recognized worldwide as the godfather of transcendence through sheer volume.
