Vertical Horizons is the intriguing title of the piece that is premiered here by the Malmö Symphony Orchestra. The composer Martino Torquati, who is also a hornist, has studied composition in his hometown of Fermo in Italy and at the Malmö Academy of Music.

Johannes Brahms’ Symphony No. 2 had its premiere in Vienna on 30 December 1877. In the first movement he has reused parts of the melody commonly referred to as Brahms’ Lullaby – “Sleep now blissfully and sweetly, see paradise in your dreams”. He wrote it as a cradle song in 1869 in dedication to a friend he had been in love with as a youth, on the occasion of the birth of her second son.
